BSFO announces lineup for annual health and wellness events

The UCOP Black Staff and Faculty Organization (BSFO) is once again hosting several health and wellness-themed events this fall. Check out the listings and save the dates!

October: BSFO Health and Wellness Month

BSFO Health and Wellness Month will take place throughout October. This year’s theme is Hidden in Plain Sight: The Truth About Stress and Our Health.

BSFO Health and Wellness Week: Oct. 13 – Oct. 16

From October 13 through 16, UCOP staff at all locations are encouraged to join BSFO members by Zoom for their annual Health and Wellness Week. This year’s theme is focused on the mind-body connection in relation to stress, and events feature a fascinating lineup of speakers with diverse areas of expertise. Download an event flyer.

Licensed therapist, holistic mental health educator and wellness CEO LeNaya, aka The Holistic Therapist, is committed to making healing accessible, inclusive and relatable. LeNaya brings over a decade of experience to the table. Through her Holistic Therapist Academy, she trains and empowers therapists and healers worldwide. Her work focuses on helping individuals and communities regain their wholeness by nourishing the mind, body and spirit. She has been featured in The New York Times and Essence.

Devona “Coach D” McClinton

Coach D is a certified personal trainer, board-certified holistic nutrition consultant and owner of The Experience Integrative Fitness and Nutrition. After a 20-year IT career, she shifted to health and wellness and now specializes in women’s fitness, nutrition and holistic healing with a focus on women over 40. Her mission is to empower women to prioritize their health, embrace resilience and live ageless, limitless lives.

Marsha is co-director of the UCSF Sickle Cell Center of Excellence and co-chair of the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals’ Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism Council. As a health services researcher and clinical psychologist, She conducts research on how social drivers, psychological and behavioral factors, and organizational structures and processes impact health and well-being. She also mentors high school students through junior faculty, supporting personal and professional development, with particular focus on historically excluded scholars.

Ola Popoola

Ola Popoola is the executive director of procurement, strategic transformation and operations at UC Systemwide Procurement as well as a speaker, educator, author and transformational leader. She has over 27 years of experience driving innovation and optimizing business and technology operational efficiencies across the U.S. and Europe, and is the owner and operator of a corporate training firm specializing in leadership, management and professional development. She holds a doctorate from UC Davis and is the author of “Asmaa,” a novel about hope and resilience.

BSFO Health Fair in Oakland: Oct. 28

Join BSFO members in the Franklin Building Lobby on Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 12 – 1:30 p.m. for their annual health fair in Oakland. A variety of vendors will provide health-related resources and information, and all attendees will be entered into a drawing for a free 10- to 15-minute massage!

November: Diabetes Awareness Month

Build your knowledge of diabetes and how to stay healthy with two BSFO events. Please save the following dates.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 12, 12 – 1 p.m.: Dr. Liseli Mulala, Transitions of Care Pharmacist, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital
  • Thursday, Nov. 13, 12 – 1 p.m.: Guest speaker to be announced
