Congratulations to the newest UCOP Accessibility Champions

The UCOP IT Accessibility Work Group advocates for accessibility, implements web accessibility standards and provides accessibility education and training to UCOP staff. Accessibility Champions are UCOP employees nominated by the workgroup, or any UCOP colleague, for their demonstrated commitment to ensuring that UCOP websites and digital content are accessible to people with disabilities.

Congratulations to the following employees!

During the UCnet redesign project, web pages and PDFs were migrated from Cascade CMS to WordPress. Tracy Babbitt and Abigail Uribe were tasked with remediating all the bargaining unit and local agreement contract PDFs to ensure their accessibility. They completed several accessibility training programs offered through the UC Learning Center and implemented procedural changes that simplified the accessibility process.

Yang Yang, IRAP analyst, does exceptional work on systemwide surveys — building survey instruments, launching and administering surveys, and conducting in-depth analyses of the results. She builds dashboards and writes detailed topic briefs related to the student experience at UC. Whenever Yang sends something for publication on the UCOP website, she has done the work to ensure it is accessible, making the Cascade workflow and publishing a simple task for her colleagues. Thanks goes to Yang, for her continued commitment and diligence in making accessibility integral in the work she publishes.

Alina Tejera is an exceptional asset to Student and Equity Affairs, working hard to ensure public-facing documents and files are accessible. She shows a keen interest in understanding the logic behind Web Content Accessibility Guidelines to implement best practices when working in Word or Adobe. Alina is an active listener who consults with experts and saves resources to expand her comfort around accessibility. Thanks, Alina for doing your part to improve accessibility at UCOP!

Nancy Terry and Sue Phares have done an extraordinary job of raising awareness of accessibility and the new ADA Title II regulations within the systemwide community of UC Learning Center administrators, and they’ve led by example, incorporating accessibility into their own work, such as by providing accurate, effective captions for the systemwide UC Learning Center sessions they lead and record. This is beneficial to all participants, regardless of ability, and embodies UC’s core values of inclusion and equity.

UCOP Accessibility Champions are distinguished by this email signature badge:
