Street and sidewalk improvement work begins this week near our Oakland office
The City of Oakland has announced upcoming street improvements along Franklin Street (from 6th Street to 22nd Street) from March 2 through June 30, 2026. The work is typically scheduled for Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Specific workdays near the UCOP Oakland campus have not been confirmed, and there is no indication that the work will interrupt access to the Franklin building garage. Building & Administrative Service Center (BASC) staff will monitor construction activities, coordinate with the City of Oakland as needed and notify employees if we learn of any impact to building or garage access.
Because we cannot control or fully predict the course of the work, we encourage you to allow additional commute time and to observe all posted construction signage and detours.
The project, which is part of the 5-Year Paving Plan that began in 2022, includes pavement rehabilitation, sidewalk repairs, curb ramp upgrades and asphalt resurfacing on streets surrounding the Franklin building.
What to expect during construction
- Temporary road closures to through traffic on Franklin Street and nearby blocks
- Posted “No Parking” restrictions on affected streets
- Increased construction activity, heavy equipment presence and noise
- Roadway grinding and asphalt overlay operations
- Sidewalk repairs and curb ramp upgrades near the UCOP Oakland campus
- Final traffic striping following paving work
