Strengthen your communication skills with a UCOP certificate
Strengthen your written and verbal communication skills with UCOP Learning and Development’s Communication Series Certificate. Through a mix of core and elective courses, you’ll learn practical strategies for communicating clearly, listening more effectively and making a positive professional impact.
Certificate requirements
To receive a Communication Series Certificate, you must attend five sessions — three core classes and two elective classes of your choice, as listed below. You can attend the classes in any order, and if you’ve completed any courses in the series within the last two years, they will count toward your certificate.

Thursday, July 9, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
In this interactive session, participants will explore practical, real-world PowerPoint strategies that go beyond basic slide creation. Through scenario-based examples, including building a marketing plan, developing content-rich slides and crafting a customizable sales presentation, you’ll learn how to design, format and deliver presentations that save time, engage your audience and leave a lasting impression.
Reflective Listening
Tuesday, July 14, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Reflective listening is one of the keys to better communication and stronger workplace performance. This course will introduce the fundamentals of reflective listening and offer practical techniques you can begin using right away — whether you are leading a team, collaborating with colleagues or supporting a productive conversation.
Delivery Skills for Connecting With Your Audience
Aug. 5, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Public speaking and giving formal and informal presentations can be uncomfortable and daunting. Luckily, delivery skills can be practiced and improved with each presentation. In this interactive session, we will identify presentation anxieties, learn how to prepare for them, explore various presentation styles and audience-engagement techniques and review tips and tricks to make your next presentation a success. Please bring a recent presentation, outline or presentation idea to practice.
Get to the Point! Effective Writing Skills
Sept. 3 & Sept. 18, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
In this two-part writing workshop, you’ll learn how to get your point across clearly and concisely through practical tips and tools you can use immediately. We’ll cover meeting the needs of today’s busy readers; using clear and professional language; editing for brevity, clarity and correctness; writing powerful openings and closings; and formatting material for easy reading. The result: increased clarity, response and action from your readers.
Impactful Storytelling: Making Your Presentation Captivate
Oct. 29, 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Learn to harness storytelling as a strategic communication tool. Through interactive exercises, you’ll discover how to clarify your vision, motivate teams and drive organizational objectives by understanding your audience, crafting engaging narratives and applying storytelling principles.
