Become a stronger communicator with the Communication Series Certificate

Build your communication skills with these upcoming courses and earn a Communication Series Certificate. Learn written and verbal communication techniques to make effective and positive professional impacts.

Certificate requirements

To receive a Communication Series Certificate, you must attend five sessions — three core classes and two elective classes of your choice, as listed below. You can attend the classes in any order, and if you’ve completed any courses in the series within the last two years, they will count toward your certificate.

Delivery Skills for Connecting With Your Audience
Aug. 5, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (PT)
Public speaking and giving formal and informal presentations can be uncomfortable and daunting for many people. Luckily, delivery skills can be practiced and improved on with each presentation. This session will focus on identifying anxieties about presenting and how to prepare for them, exploring different presentation styles and techniques to engage with your audience, and tips and tricks to make your next presentation a success! This session will be interactive, and participants are asked to bring a recent presentation, outline or presentation idea to practice.

UCOP Get to the Point! Effective Writing Skills
Sept. 3 and Sept. 18, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (PT)
Enhance your writing skills, especially in business communication, by using clear, concise and structured language. This workshop covers audience understanding, readable messages, compelling subject lines and professional tone. Through interactive exercises, best practices and real-world examples, you’ll enhance clarity, efficiency and impact in workplace communications.

Difficult Conversations
Oct. 16, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (PT)
Ever had a disagreement with someone where the conversation didn’t go quite the way you wanted it to? As conflict is inevitable, join us in exploring strategies for navigating difficult conversations in both your personal and professional life. In this highly interactive course, you will learn Core Principles to successfully navigate disagreements and apply them through practice role-playing. By the end of the workshop, you’ll feel more confident in approaching difficult conversations with anyone in your life.

Impactful Storytelling
Oct. 29, 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. (PT)
Master storytelling as a strategic communication tool by enhancing your ability to convey compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences, including colleagues, stakeholders and clients. Through interactive exercises, practical application and expert guidance, you’ll discover how to effectively use storytelling to clarify your vision, motivate teams and drive organizational objectives.

Communication in the Workplace
Nov. 17, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. (PT)
Learn practical tools and techniques to strengthen communication skills in professional settings. You’ll explore strategies to enhance your professional presence, improve emotional intelligence and apply verbal and non-verbal communication techniques to foster effective engagement. The session focuses on helping individuals make a positive impact in the workplace by communicating with clarity, confidence and purpose. Whether in team meetings, one-on-one conversations or high-stakes presentations, you’ll will walk away with actionable strategies to communicate more effectively and build stronger professional relationships.
