OGC hosts charity bake sale and raffle on Nov. 24

The season of giving will be here shortly, and the members of the Office of the General Counsel invite you to join with them in making this holiday season brighter for others.

For one day only, Wednesday, Nov. 24, there will be a Pre-Thanksgiving Bake Sale in Franklin Room 8112, featuring whole cakes and pies, scones, cookies, bagels, Peet’s coffee and more. The sale will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until everything is gone (usually by early afternoon). Come early in the day to enjoy the best selection.

The proceeds will benefit two charities this year: House of Ruth, a shelter for battered women, and Family Emergency Shelter Coalition (FESCO), a nonprofit organization that serves homeless and very low income families in Alameda County. Additional proceeds will be used to purchase any last-minute items for our Giving Tree event.

We will again be taking orders ahead of time for Thanksgiving pies and dinner rolls for pick up at the Bake Sale.

Traditional pies will be specially prepared for us by Nation’s.

  • Apple, berry, cherry, custard, pumpkin (no sugar apple) – $13 each
  • Special pies (banana crème, chocolate crème, coconut crème, lemon meringue, pecan) – $14 each
  • Plain cheesecake, pumpkin cheesecake – $18 each

Dinner rolls will be prepared by Taste of Denmark Bakery.

  • Parkerhouse – $6/doz
  • Butter or Swedish – $7/doz

Orders MUST be received by Friday, November 19. To place your order, contact Gloria Samson by e-mail: gloria.samson@ucop.edu.

Like to bake and want to contribute your own goodies? Please feel free to participate in this project by donating items to be sold at the Bake Sale. If interested, please contact Alleen Zulkowski by e-mail: alleen.zulkowski@ucop.edu.

RAFFLE

In addition to delectable baked items, this year you may try your luck with our raffle. Items so far include: Lupe’s mouth-watering chocolate cake, gift certificates (Eden Plaza Café, City Bloom), gift baskets – and the list keeps growing!

You may purchase raffle tickets NOW ($2.00 for one or 3 for $5.00 and 6 for $10.00). Contact Cheryl Marshall at cheryl.marshall@ucop.edu to buy tickets. WINNER NEED NOT BE PRESENT TO WIN (except for the cake).

ANNUAL GIVING TREE

Christmas ornaments with gift requests will be available at the Bake Sale so that you can pick up an ornament when you stop by. We have chosen the First Place Fund for Youth as the recipients of the annual Giving Tree project.

The mission of the First Place Fund is to provide transitional assistance to young people (16 – 23 years old) leaving foster care programs. Many of these young people are setting up individual households for the first time; others have young families of their own. Some of the services provided by the First Place Fund are: financial management, weekly life skills training, economic literacy training, monthly food vouchers, transportation assistance, etc.

Once again, thank you for your ongoing support of these opportunities for sharing at the holiday season.
