OP Town Hall draws a crowd
In a lively and sometimes humorous exchange, senior managers and staff discussed some of UC’s most pressing issues at a Jan. 21 Town Hall meeting sponsored by the OP Staff Assembly.
Key topics during the two-hour event included the state budget, the Working Smarter initiative and UC advocacy efforts in Sacramento. An audio recording of the event will soon be available on the OP Staff Assembly web page.
Surprisingly, the topic that seemed to generate the most discussion wasn’t the looming $500 million cut in state support – it was OP’s performance review process.
John Fox, executive director of Human Resources for Oakland-based employees, said the meeting provided great feedback about the need to support performance management and the annual performance review process. His office is there to help staff and supervisors with performance management throughout the year. In the coming weeks, he expects to provide more detailed information in Link and through other channels about the tools and resources that can make performance management useful for you.
Also included here, in response to staff questions during the Town Hall, are two reports submitted to UC’s Board of Regents earlier this month:
1) Senior Vice President Dan Dooley’s update on external communications and advocacy
2) Working Smarter initiative – Status Report
By all accounts, the Town Hall was productive and informative. OP Staff Assembly Steering Committee chair Andrea Gerstenberger said her group hopes to offer them more frequently. Thank you to the Staff Assembly for organizing the Town Hall and to EVP Nathan Brostrom, CFO Peter Taylor, Provost Lawrence Pitts, VP Dwaine Duckett, and Local HR Executive Director John Fox for their participation.
