Sandy Barbour, national women’s sports leader, speaks at UCOP Jan. 24

Sandy Barbour, UC Berkeley’s distinguished athletic director, will speak Tuesday, Jan. 24, as part of this month’s Women We Admire series.
The talk is from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Franklin Lobby One Conference Room, presented by the President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women.
Just four percent of NCAA Division 1 athletic directors are women.
Since Barbour began her tenure as UC Berkeley’s director of athletics in 2004, Cal has captured 15 national team championships, 67 individual titles and placed in the top 10 for the annual directors’ cup standings for six consecutive years.
She has been named one of the “100 Most Influential Women in Business” in the Bay Area by the San Francisco Business Times, a regional Athletic Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and a finalist for National AD of the Year at the Sports Business Awards.
She is also an active member of several committees on both the national and conference levels.
Barbour’s career in intercollegiate athletic administration spans 30 years, including positions at the University of Massachusetts, Northwestern, Tulane, and Notre Dame.
She graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Wake Forest. Barbour earned a master’s degree in sports management at Massachusetts and an MBA at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.
