Don’t miss UCOP’s Holiday Party, an all-day affair this Thursday, Dec. 19

Don’t miss all the fun this Thursday, Dec. 19, when UCOP celebrates the season with the 2013 Holiday Party.

The day will be full of delicious snacks, cheery decorations and harmonious sounds. Festivities begin with cider, coffee and morning treats, served from 8 to 9 a.m. in both Franklin Lobby 1 Conference Room and in 605 Kaiser.

The main events kick off at 2 p.m., with simultaneous parties in three different locations: Lobby 1, 5320 and the 12th floor President’s Conference Room until 3:30 p.m. Each will have a different flavor of food, including turkey freshly carved by senior managers, appetizers and desserts.

Events throughout the day will be accompanied by live musical entertainment from the UCOP Singers, the Uke-Cs and, in a follow-up to their Staff Appreciation Talent Show debuts, violinists Margaret Wu and Alida Nattress. Look for a special guest to join the Uke-Cs in Franklin Lobby 1 Conference Room at about 3 p.m.

Holiday Sweater Documentation Project

The holiday sweater project, like last year’s Let There Be Light sculpture, is another crowd-sourced art project for the Franklin lobby. The idea this year is: Let There Be Warmth! Wear a sweater, give another new or gently used sweater or coat and get your photo taken to appear in the photo collage. Donated sweaters and coats will be collected for the annual City of Oakland Holiday Dinner on Monday, Dec. 23, to support the homeless and low-income families. (Bins are located near the elevators on each Franklin floor, where donations will be accepted until 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20.)

If you want to participate, contact Michael Kusiak at Michael.Kusiak@ucop.edu to schedule your Polaroid photo shoot. Photos will be taken at Franklin all week this week, through the morning of the party. Come to the Franklin lobby at noon to see the official unveiling of the photo collage.

Holiday decoration contest

In keeping with tradition, all Franklin floors are invited to participate in the friendly decorating competition. (If you are located in another building, you still have time to team up with a Franklin department or floor to take part.) EVP Nathan Brostrom and OP Staff Assembly Chair Claudia Escobar will roam the Franklin floors from 10 to 11 a.m. the day of the party to decide which decorations most deserve recognition. Winner(s) get bragging rights and a mention with photos in Link, as well as an announcement at approximately 3:15 p.m. at the Lobby 1 event.

For everyone’s safety, please be sure to follow UCOP’s holiday safety tips for office decorations.

The holiday party is funded entirely by donations from UCOP leadership to show their sincere appreciation for your hard work and support throughout the year. (Please note that decorations may not be purchased with UCOP funds.)

Don’t miss this opportunity to visit with your colleagues and celebrate our collective accomplishments.

Where can you donate a new sweater and which charity will be the recipients of the sweaters? Are you collecting sweaters for children, adults, and particular sizes?

Sweaters (and coats too) are being collected o support the 22nd Annual City of Oakland Holiday Dinner on Sunday, December 23, 2013 from 11 am – 2 pm.

The dinner is provided to the homeless, low-income families, and seniors over at the Oakland Marriott. At the end of the event, participants can select a coat or sweater.

The organizers for the event are also looking for volunteers for the dinner. They were thinking we might want to send over a delegation dressed in our holiday sweaters to help.

I will confirm again with the organizer. I believe the dinner is on Sunday, but she said December 23. I’ll get an update to Link asap.
