Zoanne Nelson appointed chief of staff to EVP Brostrom
UCOP Executive Vice President for Business Operations Nathan Brostrom issued the following announcement to the UCOP community on Thursday, March 27:
Dear UCOP Colleagues:
I am writing to announce the appointment of Zoanne Nelson as my chief of staff, succeeding Michael Reese, who departed earlier this month to join UC Merced Business and Administrative Services. Zoanne will step into her new role on April 22.
Zoanne joined UCOP in 2012 as program director of the P200 initiative, the systemwide program to redirect $200 million annually to teaching, research and public service through the strategic procurement of goods and services.
Prior to joining UCOP, Zoanne was associate director of the UCSF Program Management Office, where she led the implementation of several finance, procurement, research and HR systems. She previously lived and worked in Washington, D.C., and Russia as a senior manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers, leading projects for the U.S. Agency for International Development.
She holds an M.B.A. in International Development from American University and a B.S. in Business Administration and Economics.
As chief of staff, Zoanne will provide strategic guidance, decision making, resource planning, policy development, communications and program development analyses to Systemwide Budget and Capital Resources, the Budget Office, Business Operations, Systemwide Human Resources, Systemwide ITS and Strategic Resources.
She will also oversee administration of the immediate office, including oversight of its operating budget and day-to-day decision making, and interact with campus vice chancellors of administration and planning and budget as well as the Executive Vice Chancellors (EVC), the Information Technology Leadership Council (ITLC) and the Campus Human Resources Officers (CHRO).
Zoanne will also oversee special projects and divisional initiatives on behalf of the Executive Vice President, including a new systemwide payroll and Human Resources system (which includes UCPath), the health benefits redesign program and the Violence against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA).
With the departure of Peter Taylor and the temporary combination of Finance and Operations, Zoanne will be working with Cathy O’Sullivan and campus representatives to undertake a full review to determine the best structure for both divisions that will ensure maximum effectiveness, efficiency and support for the goals of UCOP.
Please join me in welcoming Zoanne to her new role.
Sincerely,
Nathan Brostrom
Executive Vice President, Business Operations
