Deadline this Friday, April 25, to claim bikes in Franklin parking cage
Have you misplaced your mountain bike?
Two bikes have been languishing in the Franklin building bike cage for months, and they are about to be donated to charity unless their owners claim them by this Friday, April 25.
The bikes, a women’s blue Motiv Backcountry HP and a men’s yellow Huffy Mount Storm, were among several tagged in January by bike commuter Chris Orr, legal information services manager in UCOP’s Office of General Counsel.
She’s asking the owners to remove their bikes to make way for this year’s upcoming Bike to Work Day on Thursday, May 8. Bike parking is always in high demand that day, and getting rid of the abandoned bikes will free up two precious parking spaces for those riding to and from work.
“There isn’t enough space here for people to leave their bikes in storage, especially with the spring weather and Bike to Work Day coming up,” Orr said. She tagged the abandoned bikes with notes asking owners to step up.
If the bikes remain unclaimed, Orr will personally handle donating them to Waterside Workshops, a Berkeley organization that sponsors vocational education activities using bikes and boats to promote youth development and citizenship.
To claim your bike, please contact Orr at Chris.Orr@ucop.edu or 510-987-9799 no later than Friday, April 25.
Thank you, Chris, for taking the time to clean-up the bike cage. Great example of stepping up and not waiting for someone else to solve a problem.
