Earth Week is in full swing at UCOP, with a range of activities to help you do your part to clean and green UCOP and our local community.

Channel Park cleanup

You can still sign up to join UCOP’s volunteer team of staff, their families and friends in a beautification effort around Lake Merritt. The cleanup happens this Saturday, April 26, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Channel Park, a segment of the channel between Lake Merritt and the Oakland estuary. You can sign up on Google Docs or email UCOPearthday@gmail.com.

Discussion of California’s Water Resources

Today, Tuesday, April 22, don’t miss a discussion of California’s Water Resources and Climate Change, 12 to 1 p.m., in Franklin Lobby 1 (note location change).

Doug Parker, director of the California Institute for Water Resources and Principal Publications Coordinator Kathleen Wong of the Natural Reserve System will speak about the challenges and opportunities facing management of California’s water resources and climate change adaptation. Jan Corlett, chief of staff of UC’s Agriculture and Natural Resources division, will moderate.

There will also be light refreshments and a drawing for prizes.

Recycling drive all week

Ongoing throughout the week is the Less-Paper/Paper-Less Initiative’s information campaign, recycling drive and office beautification contest to “dig out” of unnecessary non-record materials cluttering your office.

Recycling bins will be placed in all UCOP Oakland locations. You can even win the “most improved workspace” award (and gift card) by taking before and after photos of your office and sending them to Mike Kusiak at Michael.Kusiak@ucop.edu.
