Lace up those walking shoes and join your colleagues Wednesday, May 21 for fresh air, fitness and an energizing walk.

UC Walks is back! Join your OP colleagues for giveaways and a 30-minute walk at noon Wednesday at Snow Park (located on the corner of 19th and Harrison streets near Lake Merritt) to mark the university’s 5th annual walking event. Activities also include a raffle for a chance to win an iPod and NutriBullet blender/mixer.

Participants will receive a free T-shirt while supplies last. Order your T-shirt online now and pick them up today (Tuesday, May 20) here:

  • Kaiser and 20th Street Building employees: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Kaiser 5th floor
  • Franklin Building employees: 12-1 p.m. Franklin 5th floor patio and 2-3 p.m. Franklin 6305B

If you miss the Tuesday pickup slots, you can also pick up your T-shirt at Snow Park on the day of the walk.

The UCOP event will coincide with UC Walks events happening across the system to promote an active, healthy lifestyle.

More than 5,480 people across the UC system participated in UC Walks last year, collectively covering nearly 10,700 miles. That’s about 2,000 more miles than in 2012, when walkers racked up 8,771 miles.

UC Walks is a qualifying activity in the UC Living Well wellness program. Employees and retirees who participate in UC Walks will earn 2,500 points toward the 7,500 points needed to receive the $75 incentive gift card. You can also earn points by completing the online Total Health Profile and through other campus activities, online health programs and wellness coaching.

Employees represented by some collective bargaining units are not eligible to participate in the UC Living Well wellness program and cannot earn the incentive gift card.
