Mentorship program seeks new crop as 2013–14 graduates celebrate
The temperature wasn’t the only thing that felt warm last Thursday when UCOP participants in the 2013–14 Mentorship Program held a graduation celebration of sorts, wrapping up their year and kicking off the program’s next cycle.
The warmth was felt all around as mentees expressed their appreciation and gratitude to their mentors for sharing their time, expertise and support. Mentors also spoke about how rewarding the experience was, saying they had gotten as much or more from their mentees as they had given.
Now in its fourth year, the program builds about 25 mentor–mentee pairings each year that provide a supportive structure for UCOP employees to cultivate contacts, explore challenges and enhance their effectiveness as they grow both personally and professionally.
If you’re interested in participating as a mentor this year, email Jeanie Urban at Jeanie.Urban@ucop.edu. Interested mentees, please complete an application and submit it to Urban at the same email address by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15.
You can learn more about the 2014–15 program at brown bags next month, where graduates will share their experiences and answer questions. All sessions take place from 12 to 1 p.m (click on date/location to add event to your calendar):
- Wednesday, Aug. 6, 10325 Franklin
- Thursday, Aug. 7, 612 Kaiser
- Monday, Aug. 11, 415 20th St., room 302
Mentees use the mentorship opportunity to gather information, develop peer support, learn more about management and better understand the organizational culture of UCOP. The one-on-one relationships officially take place for 10 months but have the potential to enrich careers and create enduring friendships.
Check the UCOP Mentorship Program website for more, including criteria for participation and a mentee application.
