A UC Hastings law professor who helped reshape the debate over women’s advancement will speak at UCOP this week.
Distinguished Professor Joan C. Williams will appear Thursday, Aug. 28, 12 to 1 p.m. in Franklin Lobby 1, part of the Women We Admire series sponsored by the President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (PACSW).
The New York Times in 2007 described Williams as having “something approaching rock star status” among work-family advocates.
Her article Deconstructing Gender, originally published in 1989 in the Michigan Law Review, is listed as one of the most cited law review articles ever published. It is one of more than 90 academic articles and book chapters she has written or co-written. Her eighth book, What Works for Women at Work, was published by NYU Press in January.
Williams is also founding director of the Center for WorkLife Law, which fights workplace discrimination against mothers, and UC Hastings Foundation Chair. You can find more of her writing on her Huffington Post blog.
