Staff Appreciation Week coming: Get ready to be appreciated

Staff Appreciation Week will kick off this year with the Carnival Midway on Tuesday, Sept. 30, featuring lunch on the Franklin patio and tabling by UCOP’s many affinity groups.
It’s that time of year again. Staff Appreciation Week returns to UCOP Sept. 29 to Oct. 3 with something for everyone! Save the dates and get ready to be appreciated.
The talent scouts are already out, searching for the talent you hide behind your professional workday demeanor. All talents are welcomed. In the past, the showcase has included acts as diverse as juggling, torch singers, violinists both country and classical, even operatic lip-synching. So don’t be shy.
If you’re interested in participating, please submit your completed application to Sutton Bennett at Sutton.Bennett@ucop.edu by Friday, Sept. 12.
Here’s the full lineup of the week’s activities:
Tuesday, Sept. 30, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Staff Appreciation Lunch on the Franklin fifth floor patio, featuring tacos with all the fixings and tabling by UCOP’s affinity groups.
Wednesday, Oct. 1, all day, in the Franklin building: In support of President Napolitano’s Global Food Initiative, UCOP is partnering with Stop Hunger Now, an international hunger relief agency that prepares food packages for children and families worldwide. It provides the bags and food, and we provide the labor, with the goal of filling 10,000 bags that day. All members of the Oakland-based community are encouraged to volunteer their time, if only for a few moments, to help OP meet its ambitious goal. Friday, Oct. 3, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.: The popular talent show returns to Kaiser Auditorium, featuring performers from UCOP’s Oakland-based community. The semi-annual Milestone Service Awards will also be presented, and wine and cheese will be served.

will departments be encouraged to have their own events on monday or thursday?
Great question, Ken. Due to inconsistent responses in previous years, there will not be an effort to encourage individual departmental events this year. Instead, UCOP leadership have been asked to encourage their employees to participate in as many of the OP hosted events as each employee deems fit. The Community Service Day planned for Wednesday will require lots of participation to meet our goal, so the committee is encouraging the UCOP community to focus any department- and division-level activities on that effort. Any OP department not located in Oakland has funds allocated to them to host their own event(s) during Staff Appreciation Week so they are not excluded from the celebration due to proximity of their building’s location.
