UC Walks for wellness
A slight drizzle of rain didn’t deter UCOP staff from participating in UC Walks Day, and supporting health, wellness and UC Living Well. UCOP and all UC campuses were part of the systemwide event last Wednesday, May 19. Nearly 200 UCOP employees joined in the half-hour walk that began at noon.
After donning their UC Walks special edition T-shirts, employees in the Franklin Street building walked to Snow Park, and Kaiser building employees walked around Lake Merritt.
“It’s good that UC is encouraging employees to be fit. The walk occurred during a break in the Regents meeting, and I thought it was important to show support for it. Events like these help to build camaraderie and burn calories – as long as you stay away from the mobile cupcake truck around the corner,” said Alec Rosenberg, communications coordinator.
In addition to receiving free T-shirts, participants were entered into drawings for giveaways, including two iPods. Other prizes included lunch bags, first aid kits and kitchen utensils. Water, snacks and sunscreen were provided to all participants, courtesy of Kaiser, which also furnished the prizes.
There was even a game, a Wheel of Fortune for Health. Players spun the wheel, then answered a question within the health category where the wheel stopped. Prizes were given for correct answers.
UC Wellness sponsors Kaiser and StayWell had representatives on hand to answer questions about UC Wellness programs. Learn more at the UC Living Well website: http://uclivingwell.ucop.edu/.
