Join a May 1 discussion on implicit bias and available trainings
Diversity and Engagement is hosting a discussion about implicit bias and some of the various implicit bias trainings available through UC. Whether you have completed one — or several — trainings or webinars, your participation is welcomed. Which of the proposed interventions can you apply in your area of impact? In what areas, if any, do you remain skeptical of the implicit bias training movement?
Implicit bias refers to the stereotypes and attitudes people have toward specific populations in their social environment. Biases that are both favorable and unfavorable toward groups are informed by the cultural norms and stigmas of an individual’s social environment, and therefore can be activated unconsciously.
Join Tae-Sun Kim, manager of Strategic Diversity Initiatives at UCOP, and your UC colleagues for reflection and dialogue about the trainings, and how and whether implicit bias is present in your work.
There are recommended activities that all participants are encouraged to complete before the discussion. These are listed on the registration form.
