UCOP Volunteers: Ginny Delaney

Ginny Delaney and her husband volunteer

Ginny and her husband clean their block in Hayward, California, during the 2018 Northern California wildfires.

Virginia “Ginny” Delaney is a biomedical sciences program officer at UCOP’s Research Grants Programs Office. She’s also an enthusiastic volunteer who’s bonded with her community through local urban beautification projects. Learn more about what inspires his belief in giving back.

Where do you volunteer, and what causes does your work support?

Keep Hayward Clean & Green (KHCG) was formed by the City Council to help address issues impacting community appearance. Its mission is to preserve the environment and enhance the visual appearance of the City of Hayward through the joint efforts of individuals, volunteer groups, businesses and municipal resources.

Can you share a little about what your volunteer work means to you?

As a new Hayward resident, it was a good way for me to meet other residents and to learn more about the community by staffing regular cleanups throughout Hayward. My husband and I also adopted our block and regularly pick up litter in the neighborhood.

What is your dream volunteer opportunity?

I have several: I enjoy spending time with animals, so working at a shelter with animals that need socialization would be great. Also, I like making an impact and seeing all the garbage we collect with Keep Hayward Clean and Green gives me a great feeling.
