Football great Justin Forsett joins UC’s call to Double the Pell
The call to Double the Pell is growing!
Recently, former UC Berkeley athlete Justin Forsett joined UC’s efforts to double the Pell Grant. View the post from the UC Student Association (UCSA)!
We’re excited for former @UCBerkeley athlete @JustinForsett to join our efforts to Double the Pell! You probably know him from his record-setting time with @CalAthletics and his 9 seasons in the @NFL—now, he’s sharing why we need Congress to #DoublePell. pic.twitter.com/I4uaujx1lC

Justin, a member of Cal Athletics Hall of Fame, played for UC Berkeley from 2004-07. He was chosen first-team All-Pac-10 and Cal’s Offensive MVP as a senior in 2007, when he rushed for 1,546 yards and tied the school’s season record with 15 rushing touchdowns. He went on to play in the NFL for nine seasons, including a Pro Bowl year in 2014 when he rushed for 1,266 yards with the Baltimore Ravens.
Justin’s call-to-action is the latest in a nearly eight-month campaign led by UC and the UC Student Association. Pell Grants are the primary way that the federal government helps low-income students afford college — at UC that’s more than 78,000 undergrads and nationally, around 7 million students. In 1980, Pell Grants covered more than 75% of the cost to attend a 4-year public university, but today their value covers around 28%.
