Anita Gursahani: new deputy to AVP for Laboratory Operations
On August 23, Anita Gursahani became UCOP’s new Deputy to the Associate Vice President for Laboratory Operations in the Laboratory Management department. She replaced James ‘Buck’ Koonce, who retired at the end of June, and will report to Associate Vice President for Laboratory Operations, Bob Van Ness.
Prior to joining UCOP, Gursahani served as the deputy chief operating officer at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). Previously, she spent 19 years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), where she held a variety of operations and management positions. Gursahani was a member of the LLNL Contract Transition Team in 2007, which led the effort for Facilities and Infrastructure to ensure a smooth and orderly transition from the University of California to the new contractor, Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC (LLNS).
She has strong expertise in and knowledge of laboratory missions and operations; contract assurance; environment, health, and safety; site infrastructure; safeguards and security; finance; procurement; property management; human resource functions and Department of Energy (DOE) requirements. Gursahani earned a B.S. in electrical engineering from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and an MBA from Saint Mary’s College. She is a Certified Professional Electrical Engineer in California.
