Explore the “revolving door” between the streets and emergency room for unhoused people
Unhoused people often come to the emergency room with unstable medical or mental health conditions. They are typically released back to the streets either not fully stabilized or without a comprehensive follow-up plan. Many then return for emergency care within days, weeks, or months.
In this third session of the UC Center Sacramento (UCCS) Special Winter Symposium on Chronic Homelessness, an academic expert and a policymaker — both with years of experience working on the problem of chronic mental illness and substance abuse — will discuss the nature, origins, and possible solutions to this “other revolving door.”
On Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 12 – 1:15 p.m. (PT), join the UCCS for this special virtual event featuring Dr. Aimee Moulin, professor of emergency medicine at UC Davis Health, and Darrell Steinberg, the 56th mayor of Sacramento, California.
