Creating an Inclusive Culture: Intergenerational Collaborative Work Teams

In today’s workforce, five generations work alongside each other, representing values, assets and viewpoints that enhance organizations and enrich culture. While there is a great benefit to this array of experiences and talent, it can also create challenges. In this workshop, you’ll define and understand the culture within teams, learn the invisible strengths of each generation and how they contribute to the team dynamic, identify silent team “killers,” and develop methods to shape a diverse and inclusive team grounded in equity.
Design Thinking to Focus, Collaborate, and Play
Oct. 24, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Design thinking helps build your ability to think creatively and work collaboratively to solve significant problems. In this hands-on, online workshop, you’ll learn the key aspects of design thinking, including working with stakeholders to co-create innovative solutions; participate in a design challenge with colleagues; and learn valuable tips and techniques for collaborating and problem-solving in the workplace and beyond.
Delivery Skills for Connecting with Your Audience
Oct. 26, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
No matter who you’re presenting to, how you share your information matters. This interactive workshop will help you gain the skills needed to make your next presentation a success. We’ll identify common presentation and public-speaking anxieties, then learn to prepare for and overcome them; explore presentation styles and techniques to keep your audience engaged; and discover new tips and tricks to make your presentations stand out!

New Employee Orientation

Starting a new job or transitioning to a new location can be daunting. The UCOP New Employee Orientation is designed to facilitate your smooth transition to the organization. Topics will include UC and our history, UCOP overview, tools and resources, safety and compliance.
People Leaders Forum
Oct. 13, 1 – 2 p.m.
The People Leaders Forum is a monthly opportunity for people managers to connect with one another to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams. This month’s session will focus on creating 30-, 60- and 90-day plans for new employees.

Project Management II
Oct. 18, Oct. 25 & Nov. 1, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
This three-part workshop series emphasizes traditional project management techniques that are highly relevant to the UC project environment, along with practical tools and methods you can immediately apply to your work. If you’re seeking highly iterative and agile project-management techniques, you’ll also find practical value this series. Prerequisite: Completion of Project Management I, or previous project management experience.

Excel Intermediate/Advanced
Oct. 4, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Microsoft Excel has hundreds of features and hundreds of functions and choosing the right ones, at the right time, can be tricky. In this two-session course, we’ll cover core Excel features to use right away, along with capabilities to build on as your knowledge increases. Topics will include SumIFs, AveregeIFs and CountIFs; tables and pivot tables.
Box Advanced
Oct. 10, 1 – 2 p.m.
Find out how to securely store sensitive data in Box, send data to Box by email or URL and more! In this advanced Box class, we’ll cover a wide range of topics, including setting up alerts to monitor folders and using Box groups to manage department collaborations.
Excel: Power Pivot
Oct. 17 & 19, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Advance your Excel skills by learning Power Pivot. In this two-session class, you’ll get a thorough introduction to PowerPivot. Learn how to import and manipulate data, then create reports, try DAX functions and distribute your data.
UCOP Creating Accessible Documents
Oct. 18 & 25, 9 – 10:30 a.m.
In this two-part training, we will provide you with all the information you need to create accessible Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and PDF documents. The first session will focus on the principles of accessibility, how to generate accessible Microsoft Office documents and how to export these documents to PDFs. The second session will focus on Adobe Acrobat and how to edit or enhance accessibility within PDF files. We will be remediating a Word document during session one and a PDF during session two. While sample documents will be provided, please feel free to bring your own documents to practice on. Participants must attend both sessions.
