Oakland employees: Franklin building window washing and façade power washing

Under the direction of the Building and Administrative Service Center (BASC) team, vendors began work on May 13 to pressure wash the Franklin building façade and wash the windows.

Due to the pandemic and the need to replace the window washing swing stage rig with a new, certified, and safe piece of equipment, BASC had to postpone the window cleaning. The new equipment was constructed and installed earlier this year, certified for use, and a window cleaning vendor was selected.

Since we have not cleaned the windows and building facade in over four years, both tasks are being done simultaneously to maximize efficiency. It’s an arduous task for a 12-story building, so the work is scheduled to be completed by June 7, 2024 (or sooner if possible).

While the window cleaning is relatively quiet, pressure washing the facade does cause some noise as the water is sprayed against the building. We appreciate your patience as the noise cannot be avoided.

Following is the planned schedule for the work on the different sides of the building:

Completed May 13-24

  • Left side of the 5th Floor Patio side of the building
  • Entire side of the building facing 12th Street
  • Left side of the building facing Franklin Street

May 28-June 4

  • Entire side of the building facing 11th Street
  • Right side of the 5th Floor Patio side of the building

June 3-4

  • Right side of the building facing Franklin Street

June 5-7

  • 4th floor to street level
