Mark your calendars and get ready to be appreciated!

Tacos, pancakes, prizes, juggling and more. There’s bound to be something you will appreciate at Staff Appreciation Week, coming Tuesday, Sept. 18, through Friday, Sept. 21, to UCOP.

The theme is “Celebrate Us, Celebrate UC,” and the week will offer food, fun, wine and cheese, a peek at some new UC-themed merchandise, and culminate with an entertainment showcase on Friday afternoon, Sept. 21, featuring talent from our own UCOP colleagues.

Did you know that Creative Director Vanessa Corrêa and Senior Artist Ethan Davis could juggle? Communications Associate Vice President and talent scout Lynn Tierney is looking for other talented individuals as well as a house band to accompany some of the acts. If you want to participate, contact her at lynn.tierney@ucop.edu. Or, if you do arts or crafts, contact HR Personnel Analyst Jeanie Urban at jeanie.urban@ucop.edu about exhibiting your wares at Friday’s showcase.

“In the midst of all the challenges UC is facing, UCOP leadership has been working for some time on this event to show staff our appreciation for their hard work and dedication,” said Michael Reese, associate vice president for Business Operations. “It won’t be extravagant, but it will offer lots of food, fun and variety, so we hope everyone will find something to enjoy.”

Here’s what’s in store:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 18: Staff Appreciation Week kicks off with Taco Tuesday at lunchtime in the Franklin fifth floor rooftop garden. Fare will include tacos, slushies, popcorn and cotton candy, so leave your diet at home. Also featured will be a photo booth, tables manned by UCOP’s affinity groups, and displays of the new UC-branded merchandise as well as giveaways and raffle prizes, including massages, game tickets and olive oil from UC Davis.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 19: President Mark Yudof and Provost Aimée Dorr will be among the UCOP leadership behind the grill at a pancake breakfast, also in the Franklin rooftop garden. The semi-annual Milestone Service Awards will also be presented.
  • Thursday, Sept. 20: Departments will hold smaller group activities like lunches, strolls or outings. Local restaurants are being approached about offering discounts that day to UCOP staff, and the Oakland Museum will offer free admission to OP staff badge holders all day. Don’t miss the ice cream truck outside the Franklin building entrance from 1 to 3 pm.
  • Friday, Sept. 21: Kaiser Auditorium will be the setting for the performance and arts and crafts showcase featuring talent from the UCOP community, accompanied by wine and cheese.
