UCOP to go smoke and tobacco free January 2014

Starting Jan. 1, 2014, UC will join more than 1,100 colleges and universities nationwide in implementing a systemwide smoke- and tobacco-free policy, including UC Office of the President.

This policy applies to all UC campuses, labs and centers to reduce tobacco use and secondhand smoke for all students, staff, faculty, patients and visitors. It prohibits the use of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, snuff, snus, water pipes, pipes, hookahs, chew, and any other non-combustible tobacco product.

The draft UCOP policy, Smoke and Tobacco-Free Environment , is now posted online and open for comments. (See the UCOP Smoke & Tobacco Free Policy website, and locate the fourth bullet item under “Key elements of the smoke-free policy”.) Please email your comments to smokefree@ucop.edu by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Check the website for other resources, including a fact sheet, responses to frequently asked questions, links to other UC campus tobacco-free programs and resources on smoking cessation.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Now we don’t have to walk thru the smoke on the patio, at the front door, or smell it in the elevators.
