Staff Appreciation: President’s reception to open talent show this Friday

Guitar at 2013
Staff Appreciation Week is getting under way today, jam-packed with fun, freebies and food and culminating with the UCOP Talent Showcase, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, in the Kaiser Auditorium.

UC President Janet Napolitano will host the preshow reception from 2:30 to 3 p.m. in the foyer area, where there will be wine, cheese and finger foods. The President will make remarks, so be sure to arrive on time.

Then, let the show begin!

That’s right. UCOP has talent, and this year’s show will feature several new surprises along with a few favorites from previous years, including emcee and Chief Risk Officer Cheryl Lloyd, songstress and Associate Vice President Debbie Obley and reading of the names of service milestone awardees by Provost Aimée Dorr and Senior Vice President Jack Stobo.

Staff Appreciation Week takes place today, Sept. 30, through Friday, Oct. 3, and includes these events:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 30, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Once again the taco truck is coming right here to the Franklin fifth floor patio to kick off the week, with a variety of meat and vegetarian tacos, beverages and desserts. Pick up your raffle ticket and visit all the tables staffed by UCOP’s affinity groups to enter the raffle for gift cards and other fun prizes.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 1, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Come to 5320 Franklin (note new room) to help fill backpacks with supplies for youth residents of Oakland’s Covenant House, with the goal of filling 25 to 40 backpacks. Contact Paul Lechner at Paul.Lechner@ucop.edu if you’d like to join the effort. Contact Alina Tejera at Alina.Tejera@ucop.edu if you’d like to donate funds to help purchase supplies.
  • Thursday, Oct. 2, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The Oakland Museum, 1000 Oak St., is opening its doors free of charge to UCOP staffers who show their staff badge at the door.
  • Friday, Oct. 3, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.: The talent show returns to Kaiser Auditorium, featuring performers from UCOP’s Oakland-based community and the semi-annual Milestone Service Awards, preceded by a wine and cheese reception and remarks by President Napolitano.

Note that the October First Friday breakfast will take place as usual, Friday, Oct. 3, 8 to 9 a.m. in Franklin Lobby 1 Conference Room.
