Risky Business: Click-throughs and You, Tuesday, Nov. 18
Confused about click-through agreements, those windows that pop open and ask you to click “I agree” in order to use Internet services like DropBox and Google?
Join UCOP’s Office of Ethics, Compliance and Audit Services for an interactive, online discussion, Risky Business: Click-throughs and You, Tuesday, Nov. 18, 10 to 11:30 a.m. PST. (Click on the link to register.)
Every day, people click the “I agree” box to use a variety of “free” resources like Box, DropBox, Google, Evernote, App Store and Android Market. This bypasses institutional procurement processes and controls that evaluate risk and ensure appropriate contract terms that align with policies and practices. But even the potentially lengthy procurement process encourages clicking “I agree.”
This webinar will help UC faculty and staff
- understand that standard terms and conditions in click-through agreements create risk;
- distinguish higher- and lower-risk factors in the higher education context; and
- learn how UC, at both systemwide and campus levels, is guiding end-users to make appropriate choices.
Leading the discussion will be Janine Roeth, director of Client Services and Security and Information Security Officer (ISO) at UC Santa Cruz; and Isaac Straley, ISO at UC Irvine.
Please join us and come prepared to share any knowledge you may have about what your department is doing in this effort.
