Don’t forget that you can sign up for UCOPAlert, OP’s off-hours notification system, to receive important information in an emergency.

UCOPAlert delivers alerts to your home phone, personal cell phone and/or personal email outside normal business hours when you’re not in the office but need to know about an emergency or situation that affects your workplace or your ability to perform your work. Situations might include earthquakes, fires, building closures, public transit disruptions or civil unrest.

The alerts include a description of the emergency, instructions on what to do and, depending on the situation, a request to confirm that you received the alert and are safe.

Registering for UCOPAlert is voluntary but strongly encouraged so you can stay informed. UCOPAlert is the only notification system OP has to reach employees at home, on their personal cell phones or by personal email in an emergency.

“We want to encourage everyone to register for UCOPAlert so that we can notify you quickly about emergencies and make sure you have the information you need to stay safe,” said Robert Charbonneau, program manager in Risk Services Emergency Management. “Remember that emergencies can happen any time, so being prepared is important.”

To sign up:

  • Visit the UCOPAlert registration portal. Enter your UCOP email address as your username and click “Forgot your password?” to create a personal password. Follow the prompts to create your password.
  • Follow the instructions to register as many phone numbers and email addresses as you want. Designate which device you want to receive alerts first, then second, then third, etc.
  • Your personal contact information will be confidential. It is stored in secure government-grade data servers administered by Siemens, the global technologies firm that provides the UCOP service.

During normal work hours, UCOP will continue to notify employees of emergencies through work email, office phones or the public address system. UCOPAlert is reserved for sending alerts outside regular business hours.
