Lab Management gets a new name

The Laboratory Management Office in the UC Office of the President has changed its name to the Office of the National Laboratories, or UC National Laboratories (UCNL). The new name better reflects the central role UCNL plays in supporting the university’s prime contract duties associated with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and for supporting the university’s governance responsibilities related to the two limited liability companies that manage Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories.

Vice President for National Laboratories Kimberly Budil and UCNL staff provide executive leadership and staff support to assure that all three laboratories sustain excellence in science, technology, and engineering as well as mission execution, and that business and operations activities are effective, efficient and compliant with the prime contracts. In addition, UCNL connects the national laboratories with other university resources, including research and collaboration opportunities, as well as business and operations expertise and best practices.

“The relationship with the University of California is critical to sustaining an intellectually vibrant environment in the labs and ensuring they remain focused on advancing the frontiers of science and addressing the most important challenges facing the nation and the world today,” Budil said. “Both the university and the labs benefit from this long-standing partnership.”
