UCOP gives back: Adopt a local family in need this holiday season
For many families in the Bay Area, the holidays can be an especially trying time. Years ago, Alameda County developed its Adopt-a-Family program to make this a more joyful time for families in need by connecting them to the generosity of donors. All UCOP staff is invited to participate in this opportunity to help out local families.
How it works
Through the “adoption” process, donors are matched with low-income families struggling with poverty, disabilities and abandonment. As a donor, you purchase seasonal gifts and other items on your family’s “wish list” and then drop the items off to the event organizers here at UCOP. They will add sparkle and holiday magic to the gift bundles before delivering them to our local Salvation Army which will pass them along to the designated family. If you’d like to help out with this final step, come to the festive wrapping party!
Last year, through the generosity of OP staff, many families in the program had their wish lists fulfilled. With your help, we can have another great year of giving.
How to sign up
If you’d like to participate, please contact one of the event organizers: Berni.Fitzsimmons@ucop.edu, Trish.Dolan@ucop.edu or Fredye.Harms@ucop.edu. You’ll be assigned to a family and receive their wish list of requested items.
Gifts for the families can be delivered to the event organizers by Friday, Dec. 8, or come join the big wrapping party on Wednesday, Dec. 13! All wrapping supplies will be provided.
This program is sponsored by the Chief Financial Officer’s Division, President’s Advisory Council on the Status of Women, and UCOP’s Culture, Engagement & Diversity.
