Webinar: How Will ESSA Affect K–12 Schools and Districts in California?

This webinar sponsored by UCOP’s Diversity and Engagement offers a professional development opportunity for professionals who support K–12 schools and districts in California. It will provide essential information about California’s plan to implement the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in alignment with the state’s new accountability system, a process that uses multiple measures to identify inequities. Participants will receive an overview of federal law as well as specific insights about California’s proposed implementation plan, Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAPs), the California School Dashboard and statewide systems of support.

Speaker Marguerite Ries is the federal policy liaison for the California Department of Education (CDE), and is the primary point of contact for Congress, the Trump administration and various federal agencies. Prior to this role, she was the administrator at the CDE’s Early Education and Support Division policy office, addressing access and quality of early education for low-income families in California.
