Reminder: Obama and celebs in Oakland today and tomorrow
Oakland staff take note: Former President Barack Obama is hosting MBK Rising! — the first national convention for his nonprofit organization, My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBK Alliance) — in downtown Oakland today, Feb. 19, and Wednesday, Feb. 20.
The event will take place at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center on Lakeside Drive. The schedule is as follows:
- Tuesday, Feb. 19: 3-4:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, Feb. 20: 9:30-11 a.m. and 3:30-5 p.m.
Co-chaired by Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and San Francisco Mayor London Breed, MBK Rising! will reflect on the organization’s efforts and progress in supporting boys and young men of color. Warriors basketball star Stephen Curry, musician John Legend and other celebrities will participate in the festivities.
UCOP employees based in Oakland (both Kaiser and Franklin) should allow additional commute time to and from work. Please monitor local news for updates, and we will pass along any information that may impact staff.
