Franklin building safety update
On August 8, the Building Administrative Service Center (BASC) implemented enhanced security at the Franklin building garage in Oakland.
The open-air, roll-up grills at the exit and entry of the garage have been replaced with substantial metal roll-up grills to enhance garage security. The new grills will be extremely difficult or impossible for anyone to cut through. The grills come up at 6 a.m. and down at 6:30 p.m.
The new grills were replaced as a security precaution following a bicycle theft last month in the garage. It is essential that all employees continue to follow prudent safety measures at all UCOP garages and properties:
- Take precautions to secure your bike or vehicle.
- Do not leave anything of value in your car.
- Stay alert, and report anything suspicious to security.
Security escorts are available. Security escorts are available to or from the Franklin building, between or within the Franklin garage, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. To arrange an escort, call the UCOP security desk 30 minutes before you’re ready to leave at (510) 987-9790.
Look out for upcoming safety trainings. Our twice-annual security briefing and active shooter training is scheduled for later this month. This workshop will provide personal safety strategies and techniques. Dates will be announced in Link once they are available.
