Introducing the new UCOP Strategic Framework
UCOP leadership recently completed the UCOP Strategic Framework, which division leaders have been sharing with staff this month. Many factors were considered in developing this framework, including:
- UC’s teaching, research and public service missions
- The financial realities facing UC
- California’s changing demographics
- The changing landscape of higher education and health care
- UCOP’s role relative to the campuses, medical centers, labs and ANR
The framework outlines UCOP’s mission, vision and core values, and the five strategic objectives that collectively capture the important role that UCOP plays within the UC system. These strategic objectives — which were closely aligned across existing divisional plans — include:
- People
- Financial stability
- Operational excellence
- Policy and advocacy
- Executing the mission
The values each division individually identified were also closely aligned. In the UCOP strategic framework, they have been distilled to seven values that are important for UCOP staff to demonstrate and uphold. In alphabetical order, they are:
- Accountability
- Collaboration
- Diversity and inclusion
- Excellence
- Innovation
- Integrity
- Mission-driven
The framework also lists the goals for each division with an existing plan.
As we go forward, this framework will serve as a guide to each division for updating or developing their own strategic plans and setting goals.
