3 tips for a green holiday barbecue
UCOP Sustainability is here to help you live a greener lifestyle with a new series, Green Tip of the Week.
Planning a socially distanced barbeque for the long weekend? Make it green! Here are three tips to make your celebration sustainable:
- Buy supplies from local and sustainable sources. Dollars spent at local businesses have a greater impact in the local community than money spent at national retailers.
- Right-size your purchases, especially when purchasing perishable foods. Avoid waste by trying to buy only as much as you will be able to consume before the food goes bad.
- Use reusable plates and cutlery whenever possible. If you must use disposable foodware, aim to purchase BPI-certified compostable products and make sure they make it to a compost bin!
