10-Second Bio: Maya Goehring-Harris, licensed pyrotechnician
It’s been said that Maya Goehring-Harris’s smile can really light up a room. And, this Building Administrative Service Center senior house manager can also light up a stadium! Here’s more about her side gig in pyrotechnics and what she loves about working for UC.
Meet Maya
Name: Maya Goehring-Harris
Title: Senior House Manager
Department: Bulding and Administrative Service Center (BASC)
Location: All over — Oakland’s Broadway/Franklin Campus plus residences
When you started working at UCOP: July 26, 2021
What you do at UCOP in 10 words or less: Manage President Drake’s residence, and other duties
The best part about working for OP: I love the fact that people really care about the University of California mission.
Something your colleagues don’t know about you: I am a licensed pyrotechnician — I do the big July 4th fireworks show and a few Oakland A’s games every year.
One weird fact about the town you grew up in: Monterey, California, is home to California’s first theater and the state’s first constitutional convention.
If you could have any job in the world (besides the one you have now), it would be: A tour guide at Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. I absolutely love random history, as well as seeing the joy people discover in the crazy opulence there.
