OPSA Leadership Career Panel
Oct. 5, 1 – 2 p.m.
The OP Staff Assembly and UCOP Learning and Development welcome all staff to attend a forum to engage with senior leaders, learn about their leadership journeys and gain valuable insights into how they have developed their careers. This event will feature:

New Employee Orientation

Starting a new job or at new UC location can be daunting. This orientation session is designed to facilitate your smooth transition to UCOP. Topics include UC and its history, UCOP overview, employee tools and resources, safety and compliance.

Rock Your LinkedIn Profile
Oct. 12, 9 – 10 a.m. (Multiple dates are available at the registration link.)
This class is offered monthly by LinkedIn Learning. Learn what it takes to build a great profile that speaks directly to your ideal audience and get your questions answered by a LinkedIn expert. You’ll learn to recognize the value of your LinkedIn profile as part of your personal brand, identify which qualities to highlight and how, and apply best practices to make your profile more engaging.

Collaborative Tools for Virtual Meetings

Learn and try tools and techniques to make virtual and hybrid meetings more engaging and collaborative. Come with an open mind and ready to learn!

Microsoft Excel Techniques

Take your Microsoft Excel skills to the next level! In this workshop, you’ll learn powerful techniques that can help you save significant time as you analyze data, extract important business insights, present information in a compelling way and collaborate with others more effectively.

People Leader Forum: Project Management
Oct. 14, 1 – 2 p.m.
The People Leaders Forum is a monthly opportunity for people managers to connect with one another to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams. This month, special guest Lena Zentall will provide practical tips and strategies for project management.

Get to the Point!
Oct. 18 and 21, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Taught by highly rated trainer Barbara Nelson of Nelson Communications, this two-day writing workshop will teach you to get your points across clearly and concisely with practical tips and tools you can use immediately. As a result, you’ll gain increased clarity, response and action from your readers. Learn how to capture the attention of busy readers, use clear and professional language, apply top editing techniques and write powerful openings and closings.

Excel Advanced Data Analysis
Oct. 18 and 25, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
In this two-part class, participants will learn essential Excel skills, including working with multiple worksheets and workbooks, sharing and protecting documents, automatic functionality, dynamic arrays, introduction to macros/VBA, basic functions, auditing tools, forecasting and mapping data, sparklines and more.

The UCOP People Management Integrated Learning Program (PM-ILP) complements the online Systemwide People Management Series & Certificate. PM-ILP participants complete online courses individually, then meet monthly as a cohort to apply the skills learned. PM-ILP is designed to help current and aspiring managers acquire the knowledge and insights to become more impactful in their roles. Come and learn more! Sessions take place:

Courageous Conversations
Oct. 20, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Register by Oct. 17)
Whether you’re having a feedback conversation, navigating conflict, or just sharing a tough message, knowing how to communicate for impact without damaging relationships is essential. In this workshop, you’ll develop skills to manage your emotions and communicate effectively, especially under pressure. Participants will practice real-life examples and get feedback from their peers.

Box Advanced
Oct. 26, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Take your Box skills to the next level in this advanced class. Learn how to securely store sensitive data, import data via email or URL, set up folder-monitoring alerts and use Box groups to manage department collaborations.

Design Thinking to Focus, Collaborate and Play
Oct. 27, 1 – 3 p.m. (Register by Oct. 24)
Have you been curious about design thinking and want to learn more? This hands-on workshop includes an overview of the design thinking process and leaves you equipped with concepts and techniques that you can apply right away.

Navigating Change and Transitions
Oct. 28, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The only constant thing is change: Heraclitus, who lived 100 years before Plato, knew this, and it’s still true in today’s world. This workshop will explore the human response to change and stages within the transition process. Participants will expand their capability to successfully navigate personal and professional changes while utilizing the William Bridges’ Transition Model and Psychological Flexibility framework.
