If you’ve been hoping to boost your professional skills, there’s never been a better time. UCOP offers a variety of virtual live learning opportunities throughout the month of November, with many courses starting this week!

Select each course name to register through the UC Learning Center. All listings below reflect Pacific Time.

Project Management I
Nov. 2, Nov. 9 & Nov. 16, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
In this three-part series led by The Center for Project Management, you’ll learn the fundamentals of how to initiate, create and manage projects. The course takes place over three sessions — please register for each separately using the links below. Read this Link article for more information about the series.

PM-ILP Information Session
Nov. 2, 9:30 – 10 a.m.
The UCOP People Management Integrated Learning Program (PM-ILP) cohort complements the systemwide People Management Series & Certificate. Participants complete the online courses individually and meet monthly as a cohort to apply the skills learned. PM-ILP helps current and aspiring managers acquire the knowledge and insights to become more impactful in their roles. Come to one of these informational sessions to learn more.

Rock Your LinkedIn Profile
Nov. 2, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Make the most of your LinkedIn profile! Join this session, led by LinkedIn, to learn what it takes to build a great profile that speaks directly to your audience and get your questions answered by a LinkedIn expert. You’ll learn to recognize the value of your LinkedIn profile as part of your brand, identify qualities to highlight across your profile and apply best practices for building an engaging profile.

PowerPoint Techniques
Nov. 3, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
In this session, you will learn powerful techniques that can help you save significant time, better manipulate and format presentations, convey information in a compelling way, and collaborate with others more effectively. You’ll learn:
– Formatting tips, shortcuts and master slides
– Data presentation tips, including tables, charts and diagrams from within PowerPoint and from other applications, like Excel and Word
– Using SmartArt to add visual elements that make your presentation more memorable
– Presentation best practices to increase your impact

November 3Practice Circles (online)
Nov. 4, 9 – 10:30 a.m.
UCOP Human Resources and the Ombuds Office are holding 3Practice Circle sessions to facilitate dialogue between colleagues and help us connect as a community. A 3Practice Circle isn’t a debate, discussion or therapy group; it’s a safe space for clarity and understanding — with no obligation to agree — and an opportunity to exercise your listening and communication skills. November sessions will be held online via Zoom. We will focus on the question, “This is what I lost or discovered during COVID.” Read more about 3Practice Circles, and see all upcoming sessions and topics.

People Leaders Forum: 10 Tips for Valuable Check-Ins
Nov. 4, 1 – 2 p.m.
The People Leaders Forum is a monthly opportunity for people managers to connect with one another to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams. Our November session will feature Ombudsperson Callale Concon and Learning and Development Manager Annie Prozan. They will review valuable strategies to engage in two-way conversations that support the growth and development of your team. Join us to learn and share tips for making check-ins meaning and effective.

Week of Nov. 7

GROWing Your Check-In Conversations for Managers
Nov. 8, 9 – 11 a.m.
This two-hour virtual live workshop provides managers with an opportunity to practice using the GROW framework in STEP Check-in conversations, while sharing tips and strategies for providing feedback. This is part of the three-year training plan designed by the Performance Appraisal workgroup made up of colleagues from across UCOP.

New Employee Orientation
Nov. 8, 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Starting a new job or at new UC location can be daunting. This orientation session is designed to facilitate your smooth transition to UCOP. Topics include UC and its history, UCOP overview, employee tools and resources, safety and compliance.

Box Fundamentals
Nov. 9, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The course will give you an overview of Box.com, the cloud-based service that provides secure file storage and file sharing. Learn how to use Box, how to collaborate with people in and outside of UCOP, commenting on files, folder permissions, shared links, and many other tips that will help you when using Box. IT administrators will be on hand to answer your questions and review the best features of Box.

Creating Accessible PDFs
Nov. 9, 2 – 3 p.m.
IT Accessibility is about empowering users with disabilities to easily access and engage with online resources. Many of these resources, such as tax forms, annual reports and policy documents, are PDFs. We will cover how to create accessible Word documents, which can be easily converted into accessible PDFs, and to identify basic accessibility issues using Adobe’s accessibility checker.

GROWing Your Check-In Conversations for Employees
Nov. 15, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
GROWing your Check-in Conversations is two-hour virtual live workshop that provides employees with an opportunity to practice using the GROW framework in STEP Check-in conversations, as well as to share tips and strategies for providing feedback. This is part of the three-year training plan designed by the Performance Appraisal workgroup made up of colleagues from across UCOP.

Lunch & Learn: UC Experience Conversation Toolkit
Nov. 15, 12:10 – 12:55 p.m.
Join us to learn about the new the UC Experience Conversations toolkit. UC Experience Conversations are one-on-one, broad-ranging conversations between employees and managers, focused on understanding and enhancing the overall UC workplace experience. They provide opportunities to revisit and explore what is critically important to you as you think about your satisfaction, engagement and motivation at work. It is also an opportunity for managers and employees to discuss topics like career goals, new ideas and perspectives of what working is, and how well-being is impacted by our ever- evolving workplace environment.

PM-ILP Information Session
Nov. 16, 2:30 – 3 p.m.

Trust and Psychological Safety in the Workplace
Nov. 17, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Led by UCOP Systemwide Director of Leadership and Organization Development Lisa Terry, this interactive workshop will teach participants to understand the concepts of trust and psychological safety, how to measure trust and psychological safety in the workplace, and action steps to create greater trust and safety within organizations and teams. Participants should watch the following videos in advance of the workshop:

STEP for New Employees: Define Criteria
Nov. 18, 10 – 11 a.m.
In this instructor-led training on the Staff Talent Evaluation Process (STEP), we will expand on the materials presented in the STEP Fundamentals for Employees eCourse by going into detail on the first stage of STEP, called Define Criteria. You will practice writing goals, review strategies for choosing focus competencies and discuss personal change management.
