Technology

IT Orientation
May 2, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
If you’re a new employee or a recent transfer to UCOP, get help with all your technical questions by attending IT orientation. We’ll cover Jabber phones, Outlook email and calendar, Office 365, Outlook Web Application and Box.

Zoom for Meeting Rooms
May 3, 9:30 – 10 a.m. or 1:30 – 2 p.m.
As we welcome more and more staff back to the office, familiarize yourself with the technology in meeting rooms. Join us for a demo on how to connect to the screens to project content or join a Zoom meeting. IT Client Services will be available to answer questions to ensure your next meeting succeeds.

Box Fundamentals
May 10, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
This course will give you an overview of Box, the cloud-based service that provides UCOP’s secure file storage and file sharing.

Power BI
May 24, May 25 & May 31, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Learn how to use Power BI in this three-session course! Topics include connecting to data sources; cleaning, profiling and shaping data; creating interactive visualizations; and publishing and sharing reports and dashboards.

UCOP Creating Accessible PDFs
May 30, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Digital accessibility ensures that users with disabilities can easily access and engage with any digital content UCOP creates. Many of these resources, such as annual reports, policy documents and presentations are PDFs. Learn how to create accessible Word documents, convert Word to PDF and identify basic accessibility issues using Adobe’s accessibility checker. We will also address converting Excel, PowerPoint, and other formats into accessible PDFs.

Leadership Fundamentals for Aspiring Leaders – Information Session
May 2, 1 – 1:30 p.m.
If you’ve never been a manager or supervisor, but are interested in learning key aspects of leadership, time management and wellness, the UCOP Leadership Fundamentals for Aspiring Leaders Program (LFP) might be just what you’re looking for. This cohort-based learning opportunity is designed to help participants develop and practice the leadership, behavioral and wellness skills that are crucial for managing today’s information overload and fast-paced work environment. Attend one of these info sessions to learn more.

OPSA Panel: Managing Teams Today – A Conversation with Managers
May 3, 1 – 2 p.m.
The OP Staff Assembly (OPSA), in collaboration with UCOP Learning & Development, invites you to hear from valued UCOP managers as they share their journeys and best practices for today’s work environment. Panelists will share insights into how they build and lead teams, navigate challenges with dispersed colleagues and incorporate flexibility as a key to supporting hybrid teams. People managers and individual contributors will leave with key takeaways to help any hybrid team flourish. Panelists include Shirley Bittlingmeier, Christina Saint Martin, Tera Urias and Amy Vrizuela.

People Leaders Forum: Team Agreements
May 12, 1 – 2 p.m.
The People Leaders Forum is a monthly opportunity for people managers to connect with one another to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams. In the May session, we’ll focus on team agreements — co-created rules of engagement that focus on how teams collaborate, communicate and hold each other accountable. In this session, you’ll learn how to facilitate a team agreements activity with your colleagues to navigate a new way of working. This activity involves every individual in a way that is easy to craft, discuss and maintain.

GROWing Your Check-In Conversations for Managers
May 18, 1 – 3 p.m.
GROWing your Check-in Conversations is a two-hour virtual live workshop that provides managers with an opportunity to practice using the GROW framework in STEP check-ins, while sharing tips and strategies for providing feedback.

Design Thinking to Focus, Collaborate, and Play
May 5, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Have you been curious about design thinking and want to learn more? This hands-on workshop includes an overview of the design thinking process and leaves you equipped with the key design thinking concepts and techniques that you can apply right away.

Social Emotional Learning at Work: Creating Connection and Belonging at UCOP
May 10 and May 17, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Incorporating principles of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) at work enhances your ability to communicate and connect with a range of people in healthy ways. Research indicates that focusing on SEL can lead to greater employee satisfaction and retention. In this two-session workshop, author and educator Rachelle Rogers-Ard, Ph.D., will provide frameworks and interactive exercises to help you build connections with your peers and teams.

Mindfulness at UCOP
May 19, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Less stress, enhanced awareness, better focus and improved health are some of the benefits shown in research studies on mindfulness. In this workshop, you’ll learn to reduce your stress and increase your effectiveness at work through simple mindfulness techniques.

Managing Implicit Bias: A Conversation
May 30, 1 – 3 p.m.
Have you completed UC Managing Implicit Bias, a six-course online training series designed to increase awareness of implicit bias and reduce its impact at the university? Join colleagues for a follow-up conversation. Together, we will discuss challenges and strategies for managing implicit bias. You’ll walk away with a greater understanding of your own implicit biases and your ability to promote equity, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your life.

New Employee Orientation
May 4, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Starting at a new job or new UC location can be daunting. This orientation session is designed to facilitate your smooth transition to UCOP. Topics include UC and its history, UCOP overview, employee tools and resources, safety and compliance. 

UCOP Safety: Active Attacker Training
May 4, 1 – 2 p.m.
Melissa Collins, program manager for security, risk and resilience, will teach skills and strategies to respond in the case of an active-attacker situation. Participants will review real-life incidents and discuss options in the event of potential similar encounters. Melissa joined UCOP after serving 20 years with the UC San Diego Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant, and is a safety expert.

STEP for New Employees: Define Criteria
May 9, 2 – 3 p.m.
In this instructor-led training on the Staff Talent Evaluation Process (STEP), we will expand on the materials presented in the STEP Fundamentals for Employees eCourse by going into detail on the first stage of STEP, called Define Criteria. You will practice writing goals, review strategies for choosing focus competencies, and discuss personal change management.

New Employee Orientation — Oakland
May 9, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
