President Drake addresses more than 1,200 staff at hybrid UCOP Town Hall

On Thursday, Nov. 8, UC President Michael V. Drake, M.D., held a Town Hall for UCOP staff, with an in-person audience of approximately 130 staff attending in Oakland — a full house — and an additional 1,200 colleagues participating via the Zoom livestream.

President Drake provided opening remarks, touching upon coming together after the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Gaza, UC’s progress in advancing educational access, and the important role that staff play in the success of the university.

The president then answered pre-submitted and live questions from UCOP staff in conversation with moderator Dennis McIver, equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging program manager. Questions included topics on pay raises for staff, the UCOP Future of Work program and what UCOP is doing to keep Oakland employees safe in light of rising crime in downtown Oakland.
