Communication in the Workplace
Dec. 1, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Learn tools and techniques to enhance your professional presence and emotional intelligence, while discovering verbal and non-verbal communication techniques that will help you facilitate effective engagement and make a positive professional impact. This workshop is taught by popular instructor Raj Kapur, president of the Center for Project Management.
UCOP Mentorship Program Information Session
Dec. 5, 2 – 2:30 p.m.
The UCOP Mentorship Program is an exciting opportunity to share and learn career skills and leadership practices, guide and navigate the UCOP culture and establish long-term professional relationships. The 2024 program will be available for in-person and/or virtual participation to match the needs of the mentors and mentees. People Leader Forum – Rejuvenation
Dec. 8, 1 – 2 p.m.
People Leader Forums are a monthly opportunity for people managers to connect with one another to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams. During our December session, we’ll focus on self-care tips to help you take advantage of our winter break and return feeling rejuvenated.

Developing a Career Plan
Dec. 14, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
UCOP offers many free career development resources. At this workshop, we’ll teach you how to use My UC Career and LinkedIn to develop your professional brand; share and document your accomplishments; and network with colleagues throughout UC.

Mindfulness at UCOP
Dec. 15, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Less stress, enhanced awareness and focus, and improved health are some of the benefits shown in research studies on mindfulness. In this one-hour workshop, you will learn how to reduce your stress and increase your effectiveness at work by incorporating simple mindfulness techniques.

Technology workshops

UCOP Creating Accessible Documents
Dec. 6 & Dec. 13, 1 – 2:30 p.m.
In this two-part training, you’ll learn everything you need to know to create accessible Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF documents. The first session will focus on the principles of accessibility, how to generate accessible Microsoft Office documents and how to export these documents to PDFs. The second session will focus on Adobe Acrobat and how to edit or enhance accessibility within PDF files. We will be remediating a Word document during session one and a PDF during session two. While sample documents will be provided, feel free to bring your own documents to practice on. Participants must attend both sessions.

Box Fundamentals
Dec. 6, 10 – 11 a.m.
This course will give you an overview of Box.com, the cloud-based service that provides secure file storage and file sharing at UCOP. Learn how to use Box to collaborate with people in and outside of UCOP. Plus, discover file comments, folder permissions, shared links and other tools to help you get the most out of Box. IT administrators will review the platform’s best features, then answer questions.

Excel PivotTable Techniques
Dec. 13, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
If you’ve been using PivotTables and would like to do more with them, or if you’re running into obstacles, join us for this workshop to unleash the power of PivotTables and get results.

New employee orientation

Oakland: Dec. 12, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Virtual: Dec. 14, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Starting a new job or at new UC location can be daunting. This orientation session is designed to facilitate your smooth transition to UCOP. Topics include UC and its history, UCOP overview, employee tools and resources, safety and compliance.
