The newest addition to UCOP is the University of California Livermore Collaboration Center (UCLCC) — a three-building complex on the east side of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), which was the result of an extensive renovation that took place from September 2021 through May 2022.

The UCLCC serves as a hub to expand collaborations and partnerships between UC campuses and three national labs — LLNL, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The complex operates under UC National Labs (UCNL)  and was the dream of LLNL Director Kim Budil and Interim Vice President of UCNL June Yu.

The vision of UCLCC is simple: To reinvigorate how we address the world’s most pressing problems by bringing UC’s talent and resources together in novel and inspiring ways. The UCLCC’s light-filled spaces, flexible room configurations and high-quality technology offer unprecedented interaction and networking opportunities to researchers across the UC system. Facilities feature eight hoteling offices, flexible lab spaces and eight conference rooms of various sizes equipped with state-of-the-art audio/video equipment that can link thousands of people together from sites around the globe.

Since its open house in September 2021, UCLCC has hosted 120 events with 3,200 in-person guests and 1,500 virtual attendees. About 70% have been a collaboration between multiple UC campuses and national laboratories. Topics have ranged from research and education to workforce development, community engagement and outreach.

UCLCC’s on-site staff includes UCNL Executive Director for Partnerships and Outreach Camille Bibeau and Administrative Coordinator for Operations Garren Weiss. Together, they ensure that UCLCC is being used to its fullest potential. UCLCC is also the home of the Livermore Lab Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit philanthropic organization dedicated to supporting science and research at LLNL.
