SpeechMatters, the official podcast of the UC National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement, features thought leaders tackling the most pressing issues impacting free expression and democracy on campus and beyond. Hosted by Executive Director Michelle Deutchman, each episode addresses a new challenge.

A recent theme tackled by SpeechMatters has been threats to higher education in the form of legislation aimed at prohibiting the teaching of specific ideas and theories. The most recent episode, which launched on April 30, explores the next phase of this legislative movement, which is targeting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs, offices and training across the country.

Join Paulette Granberry Russell, president of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, in exploring the wide and deep impacts that ongoing legislative attacks on DEI programs, officers and trainings have had on higher education.
