Oakland employees: Join UCOP Pride for the Pride Parade and a brown-bag lunch
UCOP Pride is planning two fun events for the UCOP community in Oakland next week. All colleagues are encouraged to attend.
September 8: March with UCOP Pride at the Oakland LGBTQ+ Pride Parade
UCOP employees, friends and family are invited to march with the UCOP Pride employee resource group’s contingent in the Oakland LGBTQ+ Pride Parade this Sunday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Join us as we march through downtown Oakland to show UC’s commitment to advancing freedom, justice and equity for LGBTQIA people and for building a future where everyone is free to be their entire selves in every aspect of their lives.
Everyone who joins us at the march will receive a T-shirt to wear in the parade — plenty of shirts are available! Details about our meeting place will be provided to those who sign up:
Register to march in the Oakland Pride parade!
Why we march
Pride events are about human rights; they empower LGBTQIA individuals to reclaim the rights and freedoms they are denied, and the public space they are often excluded from. Visibility is crucial, especially when opposition groups and federal, state and local governments are going to considerable lengths to put LGBTQIA people at the margins of society. Pride Marches are important because they change hearts and minds. For more, read 5 reasons why Prides matter from Amnesty International.
UCOP Pride Employee Resource Group Brown Bag Lunch
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 12 – 1 p.m., join UCOP Pride and ERG Executive Sponsors Pamela Brown and Paul Williams for an informal brown bag lunch on the 5th floor patio in Oakland. Bring your lunch (or just yourself) and come meet our ERG sponsors and connect with fellow UCOP Pride members as we bask in recent successes and discuss new ways to support the LGBTQ+ community at UCOP and beyond. All are welcome!
