UC Academic Senate announces 10 new Transfer Pathways

Warif Kastoun

Warif Kastoun, who recently received her Pharm.D. degree from
UCSF, was one of many students in UC’s Class of 2024 who began her educational journey at a California community college.

The UC systemwide Academic Senate is excited to announce 10 new Transfer Pathways for students wanting to transfer from a California community college to a UC campus. UC Transfer Pathways provide major-specific academic preparation guidance, with the goal of supporting student success at UC. Currently, the community college-UC transfer rate is roughly 75%! The Academic Council, which is the Senate’s highest executive body, charged a special faculty committee to develop new Pathways and to revise existing ones, particularly in STEM fields, in response to requests from the Regents, the state Legislature, and prospective transfer students.

The new UC Transfer Pathways are in:

  • Aerospace engineering
  • Bioengineering
  • Chemical engineering
  • Civil engineering
  • Data science
  • Earth sciences/geology
  • Environmental engineering
  • Environmental science
  • Materials science and engineering
  • Statistics

In addition, the Senate has updated the Pathways in:

  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • Physics

The Academic Senate has three more Transfer Pathway updates in the works – stay tuned!

Specifics about current UC Transfer Pathways are available from UC Admissions – a group to whom the Senate is grateful for their continued partnership in ensuring adequate academic preparation and, thus, transfer student success.
