Winter office closures and January flex-week reminder

Winter break is just around the corner! Here’s what you need to know about office closures.

Oakland, Sacramento, Washington, D.C., and Livermore staff

Our Oakland, Sacramento, Washington, D.C., and Livermore offices will be closed from Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2024, through Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025 for winter break. This includes four paid holidays and three unpaid (curtailment) days:

  • UC holidays (paid): Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1
  • Curtailment closure (unpaid): Dec. 26, 27 and 30

Each department head may identify essential services that must be maintained during the break and schedule staff accordingly. All UCOP offices will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025.

Timecoding for winter break and curtailment days

Eligible employees can use vacation, compensatory time or leave without pay to cover the three unpaid curtailment days.  If you haven’t yet accumulated enough vacation leave by December to cover the curtailment days, you can arrange to borrow against future vacation time. Unless you are on an approved block leave of absence, you are not permitted to use sick leave.

UCPath and RASC staff

The UCPath Center and RASC will continue critical operations in support of UC employees, members and retirees during curtailment. UCPath and RASC employees will be working normal business operations during this period and should check with their supervisors regarding their work schedules. UCPath and RASC offices will be fully closed for paid holidays on Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1.

Reminder – UCOP Holiday Flex-Week

UCOP employees have three designated weeks per year where on-site work is optional, including the first full week of January, Jan. 6-10, 2025. For most UCOP employees, the holiday flex-weeks for 2025 will be the first full week of January, Memorial Day week and Thanksgiving week.
