People Leader Forum – Make STEP Work for You
April 4, 1 – 2 p.m.
The People Leader Forum is a monthly opportunity for people managers to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams. Our April session will focus on making STEP work for you.

UCOP STEP: Setting Goals & Competencies
April 9, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
In this instructor-led training on the Staff Talent Evaluation Process (STEP), we will expand on the materials presented in the STEP Fundamentals for Employees virtual training by going into detail on the first stage of STEP, Define Criteria. You will practice writing goals and review how to align them to the UCOP Competencies. This course is designed to support new employees and employees who would like a refresher to elevate their STEP goals.

GROWing your Check-in Conversations for Managers
April 11, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
GROW is a popular coaching framework used worldwide for problem-solving, goal-setting and performance improvement. This interactive session provides managers with an opportunity to discuss and practice using the GROW framework as a strategy and tool for engaging STEP conversations. Note: The virtual training “GROWing your Check-in Conversations must be taken prior to this class.”

UCOP STEP: Successful Check-ins
April 16, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
In this new course for individual contributors, participants will explore how to get the most out of their STEP Check-ins. The course will review best practices for tracking progress on STEP goals, managing emotions when receiving feedback and delivering upward feedback utilizing the CARE model. The highly interactive two-hour virtual live workshop will provide employees the opportunity to practice the CARE model when delivering feedback to others and upward feedback to their managers. The goal of the course is for employees to be best prepared to engage their managers during their STEP Check-ins. The framework breaks down the conversation into parts: context, action, results, explore and envision. Note: The virtual training “GROWing your Check-in Conversations must be taken prior to this class.”
