Notes from the organizers
We hope that all colleagues enjoyed this event, whether attending in Oakland or via Zoom!
During the event, Crystal Wahpepah, founder of the local restaurant Wahpepah’s Kitchen in Fruitvale, showed her appreciation for Regent Sarris by sharing stories and presenting him with a gift card to her restaurant. To learn more about Crystal and her restaurant, watch the April 12 episode of CBS Saturday Morning’s “The Dish.”
Also attending the event were Angel Riotutar, director of the American Indian Resource Center (AIRC) at UC Santa Cruz, and her coordinator, Alexa Jobe. Angel and Alexa are regular attendees at NAIPISA meetings and we’re grateful for their amazing assistance in preparing for our successful event with Regent Sarris. For your reference, they have shared information with us about:
- The UC Santa Cruz Powwow: Taking place May 18 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., this event is free and open to the public. Download the event flyer (PDF).
- A new Native American/Ingenous Themed Housing Floor at UC Santa Cruz: This unique experience will allow interested Santa Cruz students to explore cultural, heritage and tribal connections to their individual identities. Download a flyer to learn more (PDF).
