Introducing the Office of Culture and Inclusive Excellence (OCIE)

The following message is from Lalitha Sankaran, Office of Inclusive Excellence, UCOP:

Dear colleagues:

I am pleased to share an update regarding the continued evolution of our work to ensure that every employee feels respected and experiences a sense of community, connection and belonging at UCOP.  The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Department will transition to the newly established Office of Culture and Inclusive Excellence (OCIE). This change reflects the thoughtful input we have received from across the organization, the work this unit does to benefit the entire UC community, and our shared commitment to fostering a workplace where all employees can thrive.

This transition follows a comprehensive review of the EDI Department that incorporated feedback from a broad range of stakeholders. The review identified that UCOP would benefit from a unit with a sharpened focus on strengthening organizational culture, enhancing employee belonging, and cultivating inclusive leadership at all levels.  The establishment of OCIE is a direct response to this input and represents a natural next step in building on the strong foundation laid by the EDI Department.

By placing greater emphasis on culture and inclusive excellence, UCOP is better positioned to advance its mission, strengthen collaboration with our campus partners, and more fully realize the University’s public mandate.  Should you have questions or wish to engage further in this work, please reach out to Lalitha.Sankaran@ucop.edu.
